• Every casting is a different process. Show up early, prepared to wait, professional, friendly and ready to show the clients your best self!
  • Some castings are quick and will only take five minutes, others will take 2+ hours. Be prepared to wait, have snacks on you, a book, whatever you can to keep occupied! There will always be another model ready to step in and take the job if you don’t feel like waiting. Remember that.
  • Always carry your model essentials to each and every casting! This includes: heels, your portfolio and comp cards, hairbrush, bikini, hair ties, a little make up, razor (just in case), cell phone and charger, water, snacks and something to keep you occupied. They may also ask you to bring something with you in the casting email that you’ll get from your agents. I’ve been asked to bring a red apple, jeans, a white top. Don’t forget and be prepared!
  • It’s best to have all your castings mapped out the night before. Sometimes, you’ll have 10-15 castings (or more, especially during fashion week) so it’s best to have a general plan of where you will be going. This way you won’t get lost and will be able to get them all done in time. Call your agents if you’re late or lost!
  • Castings are always a different process. Sometimes you’ll walk in, take a digital pic, meet the clients, maybe try something on and then be out of there. Other times you’ll be asked to walk back and forth either in their heels or your own. Always be yourself, be professional and friendly to everyone you come into contact with. You may not know it but that person dressing you in their outfit could be a huge stylist who not only will decide if you get the job but also may consider you for other projects.
  • Generally no matter what the situation, it’s best to be yourself and be confident! You can generally gage once you walk in what kind of client you’re dealing with and if they’ll appreciate a hand shake or not. However, no matter who they are they will all appreciate a model who can own the room! They want you to sell their products after all.
