the other night, i was fortunate enough to be invited to what was without a doubt, the best dinner i have ever had. a friend of mine had invited me and although excited, i was a bit hesitant to venture off on my own without a close friend nearby. you always dread walking into a party on your own and having to jump into others conversations but hey, maybe that’s what i need to start doing a lot more! stepping out of the comfort zone of arriving with guests i know and instead introduce myself and network, network, network! in new york, what i’ve noticed is everyone is busy with work and trying to make it in some way or another. that being said, there aren’t a lot of people who have a ton of close friends. you’re in a huge city with tons of people yet it can feel extremely lonely at times. so after getting over my initial hesitation, i was excited to have this opportunity to branch out a bit.

i arrived at the homeowners beautiful 2 story penthouse (YES!! glad i came!!!) and was introduced by my friend to the other party members. it was an eclectic mix of nationalities (someone from texas, russia, dubai, brooklyn, greece, czech republic, dominican republic, france, and florida) all brought together for the first time to network, have fun, and of course, eat spectacular food.

that being said….. here are some pictures of the food prepared by chef yaan nuru- the homeowners private chef. (was i dreaming?!?!)

we started with imported french potatoes topped with iranian caviar. it was my first time having caviar and definitely ((hopefully!)) not my last…! each bite was accompanied by a smooth creme fraiche added to the side, then topped with salty caviar- a perfect mix.

there were miniature vegetables infused with lavender to snack on. so cute, and so flavourful! i often prefer to buy mini cucumbers and zucchinis as i feel there is a lot more kick to each bite.

next was the imported (seems like thats the only way to get good food in america..!) russian crab accompanied by californian peas and a pea soup that was later poured on top. at that point i did NOT care whatsoever how many calories were in that buttery, thick, velvety soup. as he described what we were about to dive into (some of us already half way through the plate), he exclaimed how no dairy was used in the soup only peas prepared in various ways which he then brought to its current creamy texture. how he got it to taste so indescribably amazing (without the cals!!!) i am DYING to know.

next came the truffled eggs with a side of crustini topped with creamy 30 yr aged cheese. i can’t even describe this meal so i’m not even going to try other than saying it was the best thing i’ve ever eaten and again, i am SO lucky i was invited to this dinner!!

for our last course, we had the beef wellington. i’ve never had it before but always watch in awe as contestants on top chef continually make this mouth watering dish for their judges. now i know why! i’m not a huge meat eater, but this dish as you can imagine was nothing short of excellent. one of the other guests, not a big meat eater herself (in fact she hadn’t eaten it in two years!) inhaled that shizz!! the chef also exclaimed that he once served this dish to someone who hadn’t eaten meat in over 18 years, and as you can imagine, she inhaled that shizz too! here is a picture of the juicy wagyu filet from australia.

we finished with a delicious piece of chocolate cake (bought from the store as chef yann isn’t big on desserts. naturally, we forgave him…!)

so to sarah i owe a huge thanks. she brought together the united nations for a small, intimate dinner party that was one i can easily say we will all cherish for many years to come. mr kaluzny graciously welcomed us into his beautiful home and was a a great host for us all monday evening. and yann… yann yann yann! with each bite i literally could have cried. his creativity yet simplicity in each course he provided was inspiring to say the least. it was a moment of clarity that i thought “my god i want to be a fkn chef someday!!!” i hope, PRAY, i can be as good as yann so i can cook for myself and others and share similar moments in the future. we were from all over the world but we certainly agreed that was the best thing any of us had ever had. so there you have it. my most mtherfkn delicious meal to date, and quite possibly ever. i went by myself, but came out with amazing stories that were shared, great contacts, memories,  and yes- a FULL BELLY!
